01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
One diner called the pork cheek at Shige the best they had ever eaten, praising its satisfying fattiness and generous portion. The menu also lists tongue, heart, intestines and liver, with a choice of cuts among skewers priced at 160–170 yen. Those who prefer their skewers salted have also recommended mixing garlic and ginger into the dipping sauce.
For a change of pace between skewers, consider the tofu simmered in broth. One visitor wrote that they liked its mild flavour; another found the broth easier to enjoy after mixing in the water released by the tofu. Diners have also mentioned finishing their meal with miso soup or udon, making this a place to linger through the end of the evening.
The grilled options extend to chicken and vegetables. Chicken skewers on the menu cost 154–170 yen, and there are grilled vegetables including spring onion, green pepper and shiitake mushrooms. Add mushrooms or peppers to pork cheek and tofu simmered in broth to round out a meal beyond the meat skewers.
The drinks menu lists beer and lemon sours, as well as shochu, sake and wine, so there are plenty of options to pair with the skewers and small plates. One diner mentioned having a drink alone at the counter. Reservations are accepted.
